With its café, vending area, shop, four changing and 600 spectator capacity the ice pad is well supported.

Ice activity programming will facilitate all ages and abilities and include:

leisure skating

ice hockey

figure skating

curling

speed skating (short course)

training/development

keep fit

educational programmes

ice-related exhibitions

competitions (ice hockey, curling, figure skating etc)

The CIA’s quality is reflected in its long design life, adaptable internal space, high grade components and operational efficiency.

The venue’s high sustainability credentials will place it in the top rankings on the country’s ‘greenest’ ice rinks.  The super insulated façade and roof will be almost airtight.  Heat will be recovered and re-used.  The chiller plant will be multi-stage with environmentally friendly refrigerant.  The Low E ceiling will cut radiant heat gain by more than 90%.  The energy efficient LED lighting will be PIR controlled.  The timber beams and roof cassettes will be made from renewable sources with full chain of providence.  The pad will be the high-efficiency IceGrid.  And so the list goes on.

The requirements of the relevant international sporting federations will be met eg ice hockey.

There will be disabled access and facilities throughout the building.

Car parking will be provided in the adjacent Park ‘n Ride.  Generous cycle parking will be provided and visiting team coaches, taxis and cars will be able to drop off at the entrance to the CIA.  For visitors arriving by public bus there will be a short, dedicated walkway.

In all, the CIA is a thoroughly considered proposal designed as a world-class venue located on a major gateway to the City of Cambridge.  A community led facility, it will embrace the needs and wants of the locale and become an important part of the fabric of everyday life for everyone.
